The Bouchie Lake Recreation Commission is comprised of six to ten members-at-large and the Electoral Area Director. Although all of these people are volunteers, three of them have specific roles on the BLRC by being the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. The duties associated with these three positions are specified in the Bouchie Lake Recreation Commission Bylaw 4918.
Although only commissioners have a vote at the BLRC table, others are welcome to get involved in Bouchie Lake Community business by joining a committee, the Bouchie Lake Community Association or one of the Affiliate Members. The statement “The More the Merrier” certainly applies!
Volunteers are the heart of our rural community and this is something to be truly appreciated and celebrated. They assist in so many ways which strengthen our communities – they are firefighters, advocates for children, organize senior events, assist in community planning, facilitate programs and activities, manage facilities, clear trails, clean up public spaces; just to name a few. In 2013, the community of Bouchie Lake partnered with the Parkland Community (Ten Mile Lake / Moose Heights) to host the 1st Annual Volunteer Appreciation Events during National Volunteer Week (April 21-27th). Three events were held in Bouchie Lake and between the two communities, these events were very successful. During the Final Celebration Event, the BLRC announced the creation of the Volunteer Appreciation Garden.
